Moment Of Truth...
I really can't seem to find anything to talk ab0ut these days... But luckily for me no one really reads it anyway and so I can pretty much ramble any rubbish and it wouldn't matter would it... "Blogs are for people who can't get published"... I can't remember which movie it came from but I disagree with it... Personally I think that blogs are for people who want to complain and put out their thoughts but no one wants to listen and only hope that someone would be bored enough to read it... Or at least that's me anyway... When was the last time someone did something really sweet for you... Hahaha don't get the wrong idea... You know the place where I live... we have this cleaner who's really nice and cheery but today she actually brought homemade muffins for us... isn't that just so sweet... I mean would your cleaner do that?!?! So classes start tomorrow or rather later today and I'm quite excited really... because I will also find out how I did for my summer course... fingers cross... I'm soooooo nervous... I was pretty happy with how the paper went but things don't always turn out like you think it would and I really need this... so dear God please help me out here... Cheers...

Rent The Movie
The movie adaptation of Rent the musical... It's revolves around a group of friends who are basically "Bohemians"... struggling artists who are striving for the sake of the arts... It talks about aids, homosexulity, drugs, love, life, and friendship... Most importantly... it has great songs...

I love love loved the movie... I really want to watch the musical now because the original is always better so it must be a great musical... I would say that it's one of the best modern musicals... Great cast as well... Give it a go if you get the chance... seriously... Cheers...

The Pink Panther (2006)
When the famous French soccer (football) coach is murdered and the infamous Pink Panther diamond is stolen, Chief Inspector Greyfus appoints Inspector Jacques Clouseau, a goofy police officer who is totally clueless to investigate so that he can step in as the hero when Clouseau crash and burns in his investigation... But it turns out that Clouseau is just so lucky that he stumbles on all the right places and gets all the right help... And manages to even solve the mystery...

One of those rubbish movies meant to be hilarious but it just turns out to be stupid... But some parts are pretty funny...

Cheaper By The Dozen 2
Nora the eldest is now married and pregnant... and Lorraine is graduating from high school... Tom and Kate Baker feel like their children are all growing up and leaving them... Tom decides to bring the family together by having a family vacation... When the arrive at their vacation spot, they meet the Murtaughs... old friends as well as rivals... They become competitive when Tom is insulted for his bad parenting skills whihc led his children to become undisciplined... But being the Bakers they always manage to forget their differences and pull through...

A crappy movie like the first one... I reckon this one was even worst... not very entertaining either...

On Set...

First I have to apologise for my terrible night mode camera skills... I can never keep my hand steady enough for a clear shot... Anyway... something rather interesting happened in front of my place, O'Connell Residence, tonight... There was a low budget movie filming along O'Connell Street... which is where I'm living right now... and the film people are parked across the street right outside my room... I was watching them film... I reckon it won't be a very good movie... Probably about drug lords or something... But hey still rather exciting... Went to the Victoria Market "Night Market" again today... I think I will try the food next week... it looks pretty good in spite of what Tim says... Tim is this guy who lives in O'Connell Residence as well... I tried the ice-cream/sorbet last week... the mango was pretty good but the passionfruit was really sour... This week I bought fudge... marble fudge... tastes really good... I reckon I'll get summore next week as well... good stuff... Those in Melbourne should drop by and have a look... Night Market is held on Wednesday nights from 5.30pm - 10.30pm I think... with food from around they world... dessert... clothing... jewellery and junk... and live music... I think it ends sometime in mid March... so don't miss out... Cheers...

Mrs. Henderson Presents
I'm not sure if this is based on a real story but I remember hearing it is about how Mrs. Henderson revolutionised the theatre by have fully nude actresses on stage... Laura Henderson buys an old theatre, the Windmill, after the death of her husband and reopens it with the help of Vivian Van Damm a genius of the arts... when their feature turns out to be a hit... other theatres started copying them... in order to upstage the rest... Mrs. Henderson goes all out to enable fully nude actresses to be on stage for the very first time... The Windmill becomes legendary and remains open during the war when all others close...

A great movie... fantastic... usually I find this sort of movies boring but Mrs. Henderson presents is just so witty and charming... Judi Dench is superb as always... and Bob Hoskins gives that extra something to the whole story... Love it!!!

Memoirs Of A Geisha
Based on the novel with the same title... this story tells of how young girl who was sold to be a slave at 9 years old rises to be a Geisha... It's a pretty long story but to make it short... after being sold to be a slave to she was sent to Geisha school while working for her owner who is the mentor of the most successful Geishas... however she often gets into trouble by attempting to run away to find her sister which got her pulled out from Geisha school and so was forced to be a slave forever... one day however she meets a man, "the Chairman", and this time really aspires to be a Geisha so that one day she could meet him again... Years later when she turned 15... her prayers were answered... she was given the chance to be a Geisha again... she is given the name Sayuri and she trains with Mameha who is determined to make her the best so that she will succeed Hatsumomo and Pumpkin (who trains under Hatsumomo)... then she meets the Chairman again... but when she tries to get close to him... Mameha asks her to do something else which only seems to stir her away... Then the battle between the Geishas start... they use all kinds of tactics to try to outsmart and outplay each other... but then chaos starts when war strikes... Sayuri flees from the city but when opportunity arrives for her to become a Geisha once again she accepts... However things seem to have change now that Americans have arrived such that Geishas are treated like prostitutes and commodities rather than artists... But somehow after all is said and done... the Chairman and Sayuri finally learn the truth about each other's feelings...

I haven't read the book... but I reckon that even though the movie itself is good but the storyline is a little patchy... because they only take buts and pieces of the whole story... A lot of controversy had been surrounding this movie... about the lead actress not ebing Japanese... about how the story depicts Geisha life inaccurately... and all that... So just remember when you are watching the movie... the story even though is called memoirs... it is fictional and the author is not even Japanese...

Underworld: Evolution
The story picks up right where it was previously left off... A quick recap... Celine is a vampire who have been loyal to her leaders for many years until she found out that her mentor and trusted father-figure, Victor, was the one who killed her whole family and has been lying to her all these years... Now that she had killed Victor, she is on the run from the rest of the vampires with only one ally left, Michael, the human decendant of Corvinus who is now a hybrid of vampire and lycan (werewolf)... Trouble stirs when the first vampire Marcus Corvinus awakens and is determined to free his lycan twin brother, William, a vicious killer who has been locked up for centuries so that they can rule the world together... Celine and Michael while on the run, crosses paths with Marcus as Celine is the only one who knows the location of William... Now Celine and Michael turn their attention to stopping Marcus... and they ended up face to face with Alexandre Cornvinus, the eldest and first immortal... He was the only one who could stop Marcus but he could not bring himself to do it because no matter what Marcus is still his son... but after Marcus arrives to kill him... Alexandre passes his legacy to Celine by giving her his blood... Together Celine and Michael defeat Marcus and William... making them the future of the immortals...

The first movie was still better but the thing I liked about this one is that it an immediate continuation of the previous one... and the story developes really quickly... Less action this time though... the first one had a lot a lot of killing... but this one was pretty brutal at some parts... I enjoyed it... I always like a good vampire story... Cheers...

Just Friends
A movie about this guy who used to be fat, Chris, who is best friends with the hottest girl in high school, Jamie, and he was in love with her but she only thought of him as his friend... or so she thought... After a humiliating incident during his high school graduation party... he left town and made something of himself... plus he lost weight... By chance he ends up in his hometown and bumps into Jamie... He decides to give her a taste of how he used to feel but she in fact fell in love with him and so he just ended up looking like a jerk and losses his best friend... But realising he was wrong he goes back to apologise and confessed that he had always loved Jamie... and yes they ended up together...

A rather crap movie don't bother... Good for filling up spare time when you're bored though...

Casanova
Many of us know the name Casanova as the name of a man who seduces women but never falls in love with any of them... a player in modern terms... In the movie... Casanova finally meets his match... When he was young Casanova's mother left him but promised she would be back for him one day and aske him to stay in Venice until then... While waiting... Casanova occupies his time by courting women... Time and time again he was caught but never charged because he had the support of the Prince of Venice... But Casanova had pushed it a little too far when seduced a virgin who was supposed to marry a very powerful man... The Prince tells Casanova to find himself a respectable bride to change his reputation... He sets his sights on the famous Venice Virgin, Victoria, but a shy young man Giovanni Bruni has been in love with her for a long time and when he finds out she is engaged to Casanova, he challenges Casanova to a duel but Casanova gave him a different name, Lupo... However being a gentle man... he gets his much more talented sister, Francesca Bruni, to duel for him in secret... When Casanova, realises he was duelling with Francesca he continues to hide his identity because he was starting to fell in love with her... Things get nasty when Casanova finds out Francesca is writing as Guardi, a man who critises the small-mindedness of men in that era... and that she was also engaged to Paprizzio... He then pretends to be Prapizzio and uses all his efforts to win her heart... In the mean time, an inquisition has been made on Casanova and Guardi... During a ball everything reveals itself... Casanova confesses his love for Francesca... she finds out he is Casanova and that he knows she is Guardi... Casanova is caught and then he confesses to being Guardi as well and was charged... But Francesca was in too deep and in fact was in love with Casanova... she confessed to be the real Guardi and they were both charged and sentenced to hang to death... But then out of nowhere Casanova's mother and her partner came in disguise to save Casanova and Francesca but was foiled... Now they are on the run and with the help of everyone they know they sailed away from Venice with Giovanni Bruni stayed behind to marry Victoria, and took over the legend of Casanova... Casanova and Francesca ended up happily every after...

The movie was pretty good compared to how badly it's been doing in the box office... It's funny, witty and charming... I like the fact that in the end the legend of Casanova lives on through someone else rather than the real one... Yeah I enjoyed it... Cheers...

Match Point
A Woody Allen movie... This movie is about how sometimes we get ourselves into situations that the more you struggle the deeper you sink... the quicksand effect... A struggling young ex-tennis pro turned tennis instructor, Chris Wilton's life changes forever when he is assigned to instruct a young wealthy bloke, Tom Hewett, whom has similar interests as Chris and becomes good friends... Tom introduces Chris into his family and Tom's sister, Chloe, falls in lovee with Chris... Chris adores Chloe that is until he meets Tom's finacee Nola Rice, a struggling American actress who went to London in search of theatrical oppostunities... Chris strays into dangerous waters when he decides to persue Nola... Nola plays it hot and cold but ultimately does not want to jeopardise her relatioship with Tom... things change one day when Tom's mother, who dislikes Nola very much, insults her and feeling depressed Nola goes off in the rain... Chris saw her and went after her... and they connected... but After that incident Nola did not want to have anything to do with Chris saying that it just happened and would never happen again... Sometime later... Chris and Chloe got married... Chris now works for the Hewetts, and Tom is no longer seeing Nola... in fact the got married to someone else soon afterr he broke up with her... After he found out Chris obsessively searched for Nola... by chance they met again in Tate Modern... and their affair began... Chris grows distant from Chloe, Chloe desperately wants to have a baby and things are made worst when the one time Chris did not use protection, Nola got pregnant... Things start to get out of control when Chris promised Nola he would leave Chloe for her but Chris actually did not want to give up the luxurious life he was living now... Chloe goes mental and threatens Chris she would go to Chloe when he kept delaying leaving her... In desperation Chris had no choice but to get rid off Nola... He planned out her murder to make it look like she was not the actual target by killing the neighbour first and robbing her place and then killing Nola to make it look like she walked in on the robbery... The police found Nola's diary which has detailed records of her affair with Chris... Chris admits the affair but denies the murder... By a stroke of luck... a few days later... another robbery killing occured nearby and they found one of the missing jewellery from Nola's case which sealed the case... leaving Chris to no longer be a suspect... and he was free to live his life again...

A very intense movie especially towards the end... quite a good movie but a little boring at times... amazingly I did not see the killing coming at all... I think it's because all the chaos sucks you into the moment that you only think about what's happening... not bad... not bad at all...

Walk The Line
Well this movie is obviously about the life and love of Johnny and June Carter Cash... An excellent movie... I actually didn't really want to watch it because I found biography movies to be boring... but this one is not... it's so good... Great performances by both Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon... Hats off to the singing as well... it was pretty darn good... And I found that I enjoyed Johnny Cash's music as well... It was great... You should definitely catch it!! Cheers...

Night Out...
The most ridiculous thing happened last night but before I get to that part... I was enjoying myself very much... the day started off well not having classes anymore... A group of us (people from O'Connell Residence) had decided the night before that we were going for a movie... so yesterday night we headed off to Hoyts in Melbourne Central to watch Walk The Line... Since we had some time before the movie started we went to have dessert... in the middle of having dessert, one of the girls, Anna, realised her ticket was missing... looked up and down but nowhere to be found... then I asked her what did she do with the ticket when she was making her order and that is when it struck her that she left it in the menu... Luckily we found her ticket... Oh excellent show by the way... love the music... amazingly... Anyway by the time the show ended it was 12 and when we got back it was around 12.10... We hung around the common room for awhile and one of the guys there, Jade, told us about how he left his key in his room so he was stuck in the common room for the night... he could have called the managers but he decided it was late and he didn't want to trouble them... Awhile later we all headed off the bed... And that was when the stupid thing happened... You see... my toilet is outside my room... and without noticing... yes... I left my key in my room!!! I couldn't believe it myself... because I usually had it hung around my neck but for some reason I took it off before I went to the toilet... of all the stupidity... so I spent the night in the common room as well... Another guy came down awhile later and I asked him if by any chance he had any DVDs and he had Shawn of The Dead so... we 3 watched the movie which ended at about 3 before we went to sleep... Man... it was so cold in the common room... but I still managed to sleep pretty well... That was really one of the stupidest things that has happened to me... Of course only on Monday... the last day of the semester... I went off to classes happily thinking it was all goinig to be over soon and got there early only to realise that I had left my last assignment back at my place... Arrggghhhh... I had to walk all the way back to get it and hence missed half the class... What's up with me man... my brain is like not working properly... Oh well... no harm no foul... Oh and congratulations to Australian cricket team for winning the 2006 VB series... Cheers...

Semester Ends!!! Life's Great...
Today was the last day of classes for me... of course the exam is a week away but that's just a technicality... I'm quite relieved really... I have a good feeling about it... the orientation process for 2006 has begun... Seeing all the new people coming in... makes me rather excited... cause I'm not the new one anymore... hehe... I'm a 2nd year!!!! Can't believe it... never actually really thought about even being in uni let alone 2nd year... Quite an amazing feeling really... And the year really has made an incredible start for me... For one thing I'm enjoying very much my new accommodation... I've actually made more friends in this place then I have the whole year last year... Yes that is sad isn't it... Not really I was just rather anti-social last year... But the people I've met here are my type of people... We joke... chat... watch tv... enjoy wasting time... Really sweet indeed... So life is good for now... Cheers...

Rumor Has It...
Based on a true story... Rumor Has It is the story of what happened after The Graduate... Sarah has been search for who she was all her life is on her way to her younger sister, Anne's wedding with her fiancee whom she agreed to marry even though she wasn't sure if she was really in love with him... when she got to the wedding she found out something about her mother which made her think about her onw life... After a little digging around she found out that her family was the story of The Graduate... where a 21 year old guy slept with a 42 year old woman and then dated her daughter... years later the week before the girl's wedding... she feld to Mexico to be with the guy but went back to marry another guy... that girl was Sarah's mother, the 42 year old woman was her grandmother, and the 21 year old guy was Bo Burroes... this got messy when her fiancee pointed out that Sarah was born less than 9 months after her mother's wedding which made her decide to go find Bo to confront him about the truth of what happened in Mexico because she was convinced she was not her father's daughter because she was nothing like the rest of her family... But when she found Bo... she found out that her father was indeed her real father because Bo was infertile... Seeing that Sarah was upset, Bo asked her to go for a drink with him... one thing led to another and they ended up spending the night together... Bo being a suave man convinced Sarah to spend some time with him since there was nothing to look forward to going back to her life anyway... When Sarah's fiancee could not reach her for a some time... he went to look for her but caught her kissing Bo... which then led to them breaking up... Sarah left without telling Bo and went back to her grandmother's place... there she finds out the real truth about her mother... Her father knew all along that her mother went off with Bo and that she came back because she really loved him and not Bo... Hearing that Sarah realises that it was the exact same situation with her... that she wasn't looking for herself all her life but her seeking for her mother... No longer scared she went to talk to her fiancee... They worked things out... and thus eneded up together again...

Not too bad a movie... good for vacation watching... Not worth the cinema... Cheers...

Brokeback Mountain
The award-winning movie directed by Ang Lee... I was rather amused that the movie was directed by a Chinese man... but hey it's a modern world... Anyway the story tells of two strangers who met when they worked as cowboys on Brokeback Mountain looking after sheeps... Being alone in the mountain they bonded and later fell in love... When their job ended... the two headed their seperate ways... one got married, had 2 girls and worked farm jobs... the other went to Texas to be a bull rider, met a rich girl, married and had a son... but when they decided to meet again... their lives start to spin out of control... one wants them to stay together but the other is weary of how society will treat them if they were exposed... So they decided to meet every once in a while... but when one of the wives found out... they got divorced... but still the two guys could not be together and even until the end because one got into a accident and died without the other knowing... or so that's what he was told...

The movie is an emotional journey of the struggle of the two men to have a relationship in a society where is was defintiely NOT acceptable to be homosexual... It started off pretty slowly but slowly built up momentum... Personally I felt it wasn't very interesting at all and in fact was rather boring... but it's one of those movies where it's about the emotions... So if you like those types of movies I reckon you'd like this one... Cheers...

A Chinese Tall Story
A modern adaptation of the classic Chinese tale, Journey To The West, where a Buddhist monk from the Chinese Tang Dynasty travels to the west (India) in search of the holy scriptures with his three diciples which he picked up on the way, the most famous one being the Monkey King... This adaptation focuses on the monk's side instead of the traditional Monkey King's side of the story and includes the monk falling in love with an ugly mountain girl who later turns into a beautiful angel and spaceship battles... The're nothing much to say about this movie except that it was rather crappy... maybe not crappy but silly... the monk was portrayed to be a sissy and the whole story was just rather ridiculous and pointless... Definitely not worth the watch... if you want to know the story catch the Journey To The West TVB series starring Dicky Cheung... that one was good... Cheers...

Nanny McPhee
A wonderful wonderful film to watch... Based on the Nurse Matilda books by Christianna Brand... this movie revolves around Mr. Cedric Brown (Colin Firth) and his ill-behaved 7 children... who are actually just rebelling against their father whom they believe have forgotten them after the death of their mother... Mr. Brown however much he loved his children had more than the behaviour of his children in mind as he stands to lose his financial support from Aunt Adelaide, his late-wife's aunt... unless he married again... After the children masterminded the deaprture of the 17th nanny, there was no other nanny left except for Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) who arrives mysteriously to help Mr. Brown... The children work their usual mischief to try to get rid of Nanny McPhee but she is no usual nanny... Using her witty tactics she manages to "tame" the children as well as win them over and help Mr. Brown realise how little attention he had paid to his children recently... as the children learned to behave... Nanny McPhee transform from an ugly woman with warts to a kind faced nanny... Never the less Mr. Brown, in desperation, decides to marry a horrid woman... and after explaining to his children of their situation, they decided to give her a chance... But on the wedding day... the soon-to-be Mrs. Brown made her intentions very clear that she was not fond of the children... After that there was no way they would let their father marry her... and with a little help from Nanny McPhee... they turned everything around... and true emotions emerge as Mr. Brown and Evangeline, the household servant girl, confessed they were in love with each other... and hence the job of Nanny McPhee was done...

I really enjoyed the movie... fun, funny, and magical... the screenplay was well written by Emma Thompson as it flowed well with no draggy parts and wonderfully humoured... only thing which I think lacked a little was the development of the relationship between Mr. Brown and Evangeline... But the movie would have been great to watch over the Christmas holiday... really warming movie... you learn to love Nanny McPhee as the Brown children do... and of course also addresses the very important matter of the need for both parents and children to listen to each other... I loved it when Nanny McPhee appears out of nowhere all of a sudden and she claims "I did knock"... it's so cute... Definitely recommended... Cheers...

Hoodwinked
The newest of a new breed of animation which involves a storyline more complex than the traditional ones maded for kids... Late last year I made an entry recommending it... I still do... It's great fun... Ok so... A short intro... Red (Riding Hood) goes to her Granny's... Finds a (Big Bad) Wolf instead... Granny manages to get free (sorta)... and for some reason the idiot Woodsman crashes in weilding an axe... The police arrives to investigate... Truth emerges... Red works for Granny... delivering goods to the doorsteps of the villagers... but recently someone has been masterminding a scheme to put all the goods selling businesses out of business... and Granny's was next... so in desperation Red decides to bring the "secret" cookbook to Granny for safe keeping... but on her way she keeps getting into difficult situations... including bumping into Wolf... who was actually a famous reporter who is trying to figure out who is masterminding the evil plan... and believes it's Red and Granny since they were the only one left and so wanted to get hold of the basket that Red was carrying... which had the "secret" cookbook in it... meanwhile Granny was actually living her secret life which includes a passion for extreme sports and was entered in a snowboarding competition... but in that race... she was attacked by some goons... and somehow they all just seem to end up in Granny's cottage... and the Woodsman only eneded up there by accident... that is when all the secrets came out... AND they realise the person behind the evil scheme was an adorable little bunny whom they never would have guessed... and while they were all pre-occupied with trying to solve the mystery... he mae off with the secret cookbook but Red managed to catch them in the act... however because she was alone... she was no match... so she was captured... When Granny found out Red was gone... She, Wolf and Woodsman head off to save Red while the hyper-squirel (Wolf's photographer) tries to get the police for back-up... and of course... Granny and Red manages to defeat the evil bunny...

An interesting twist to the Little Red Riding Hood tale we know... The complexity of the story makes it interesting and even has a muscail number in it... Great fun and extra bonus marks for the hyper-squirel... Absolutely hilarious... yet adorable... Definitely a great holiday film... Cheers...
