Okay so I've planned my holidays before they started but now that they are here... my plans are pretty much no where near what I planned... which was supposed to be mostly studying and starting/completing my assignments but no... After that after-party "disaster"... well my biological clock has pretty much went all WRONG... and I've been waking up really really late... oh wait I forgot to mention that after I came back from the after-party... I ended up staying awake to talk to Lili, Zoe, and Kris... and we just ended up talking till it was like 5 something in the morning... and I only went to bed at like 8 am... so yeah... totally screwed... yeah so I'm yet to start on anything... oh but I have done a little OB... since I'm such an OB buff... HCS: Battle At Chibi
|
Continued...
On the Yangtze River (Changjiang), Cao Cao's fleets of fightingboats were tied together with iron chains into a big steady square formation. Flags were flying proudly. On the highest flag in the middle of the square was the big character: "Commander-in-Chief". Cao Cao was treating his generals to a big banquet on his flagship. It was the 15th day of the 11th lunar month of AD208. The moon shone brightly on the tranquil river. Cao Cao was proud about his mighty army, which was ready for battle. He felt even happier when he recalled how easily he had obtained Jingzhou and that this region known as the land of rice and fish was soon to fall into his hand with the help of Huang Gai, the general who had secretly defected to his side. On the other side of the river, Huang Gai had prepared 10 boats filled with dry firewood and fuel. His soldier sprinkled sulphur and oil on the stuff, which was the covered with cloth. A smaller boat was tied behind each fuel-carrier boat for the soldiers to escape once they had lighted the fire. It was midwinter. The sharp north-west wind blew from the Cao camp to the Wu camp. Thinking that the plan mighgt fail, Zhou Yu coughed up blood and fainted. The next day, Zhuge Liang visited Zhou Yu and passed him a note which said: "Fire is the best weapon to destroy Cao Cao. Everything is ready except the east wind." Taken aback, Zhou Yu asked for help. Zhuge Liang told him that was the time when the weather changed frequently because the cold air currents often met the warm. That was why people dubbed this time of the year "a second spring". Zhuge Liang also said a warm current, accompanied by south-east wind, was to ome that midnight. Zhou Yu jumped from his sick bed and ordered his soldiers to get ready to fight. At midnight, there blew a strong south-west wind, bringing Huang Gai's 10 boats to the camp. Cao Cao was standing on his flagship and saw under the bright moonlight the flag with haraters "Vanguard Huang Gai" waving against the wind. His soldiers shouted: "Huang Gai is crossing over to your side!" Cao Cao laughed and said: "Thank goodness. That's wonderful!" Cao Cao's soldiersall came out of their camps to watch what was happening. They were shocked when Huang Gai's boats suddenly burst into fire about 1km away from Cao Cao's fleets. The burning boats slammed into the Cao fleets and camp. In a moment, all of Cao Cao's boats were swallowed in fire. Even the camps on the north bank of the river were burnt. Amid the big fire and smoke same the cries and screams of the soldiers. Soldiers and horses were either burnt to death or drowned. In a moment, more than 100 000 people had died. Cao Cao, unable to control the situation, fled in a hurry while Zhou Yu's army charged against those who were left behind. This battle led the the emergence of the Three Kingdoms.Labels: random |

HCS: "All's Fair In Love & War"
|
As revenge for what Zhuge Liang did to Cao Cao, someone suggested to him that he should send two officers disguised as defectors to Zhou Yu. To make the defection more believable, they should bring 500 soldiers with them. "In was, nothing is too deeitful." As a man who knew by heart The Art of War, written by the famous war strategist Sun Zi, Cao Cao was certainly very good at using tricks. Zhou Yu, however, was not easily taken in. He kept the "defectors" in his camp and ordered that they be closely watched. He wanted to use them to send back false information. Meanwhile, in his own camp, Cao Cao was confronted with some serious trouble. Most of his soldiers were northerners who by the great waves of the Yangtze River and the soldiers vomited so violently that they became sick one after another. Cao Cao was very worried. Then someone offered him another suggestion: Why not tie the boats together with iron chains so that they would be steady? Cao Cao thought the idea was very good and took immediate action. When an old general of Wu, Huang Gai, saw that all of Cao Cao's boats were tied together, he at once offered a strategy to Zhou Yuto beat Cao Cao - burn the Cao camp. But in order for the plan to work they needed someone to infiltrate the camp. Huang Gai wrote a letter to Cao Cao and pretended that he wanted to defect to the Wei camp. He wrote: "I want to join you and will fight in the vanguard for you when the battle begins. I'll be your agent. In this way, you'll surely win the battle." Zhou Yu and Huang Gai were still not sure if Cao Cao would believe this letter, so they arranged a show. First of all, Huang Gai critised Zhou Yu's war plans at the military conference and openly argued for surrender. Zhou Yu, pretending to be furious, shouted: "Drag him down and give him 100 strokes of cane!" Those who were at the meeting all pleaded for Huang Gai. Zhou Yu kicked the table over and said: "All right. Save 50 strokes till I beat Cao Cao!" The generals pulled Huang Gai up, for he had fainted. He had been stripped of his clothes and was bleeding all over. Cao Cao's two officers immediately sent this information back. Soon afterwards, Cao Cao received the letter from Huang Gai. But in the letter, there was no mention of the humiliating scene. Cao Cao thought: "My army is 10 times stronger than the united army of Wu and Shu. It is only natural that some of them should give up resisting." So he did not have the least doubt about the truth of Huang's defection. Then came the eve of the great battle...

HCS: Zhuge Liang's Ingenious Strategy
|
Since I have nothing to blog about... I have decided to include some random stories from Chinese history... *HCS: Historical Chinese Story
General Zhou Yu, also known as Zhou Gongjin, was 1.8m tall, handsome and elegant. His wife, Xiao Qiao, was the younger of the two Qiao sisters, who were well known for their beauty. The couple - an intellegent man and a beautiful woman - were regarded as the model of perfet marriage. When Zhou Yu was 34 in Ad208, he was enraged to hear Zhuge Liang, special envoy from the kingdom of Shu, suggest that he should hand over his beloved wife to Cao Cao, the chief of the Wei kingdom. Zhou Yu was jealous of Zhuge Liang, who was seven years younger but who was so intellegent and well informed that he seemed to know everything. He seized this opportunity to try and get rid of him.
"I will fight against Cao Cao, who claims to be acting under the orders of the emperor. He is also most powerful now as he has recently gained Jingzhou. What weapons should we use against Cao Cao on the great Yangtze River, sir?" Zhou Yu asked.
"As we are going to fight on boats, I think bows and arrows are the best weapons."
Zhou Yu was secretly pleased when he heard that remark. Then he said: "That's right. I think so, too. Unfortunately, we don't have enough arrows. Could you please see to the matter, Sir? I hope you won't refuse."
"How many arrows do you need, general? And when?"
"Will 10 days be enough to make a hundred thousand arrows?" Zhou Yu asked.
"Cao Cao's army is approaching rapidly and will soon be here. I'm afraid we cannot wait that long."
"Then how many days do you suggest?" Zhou Yu asked, feeling even more pleased.
"Three days," Zhuge Liang said.
"Are you joking? If you can't hand over the arrows in three days, there will be severe punishment for you. You'll be beheaded," Zhou Yu said.
Surprisingly, Zhuge Liang did not seem to care. He said: "Sure, sure. Please send 500 soldiers to the river side three days from now to fetch the arrows."
Zhou Yu thought: "This is not my fault. It is you who seek death for yourself."
He immediately ordered brush and ink and wrote the contract. Both sides of the boats were tied sheaves and sheaves of straw which were overed by cloth. The boats were manned by 20 good sailors.
The third day came when Zhuge Liang was due to hand over the arrows. There was a thick fog that morning. At four o'clock, Zhuge Liang ordered that the boats be paddled across the river to the opposite side of Cao Cao's army camp. Then he ordered the soldiers to beat the drums and raised a loud battle cry at the enemy.
Cao Cao woke up with a start. The sky was still dark. There was heavy fog on the river. He was afraid that there might be an ambush, so he did not dare approach the invading boats. Instead, he ordered 10 000 soldiers to shoot arrows at them.
In a while, the sheaves of straw on one side of the boats were covered with arrows. Zhuge Liang then told the sailors to turn the boats around so that the arrow-overed sides faced their own camp. The other side was soon covered with arrows too.
Day broke. Zhuge Liang gave the orders and the soldiers on the 20 boats shouted together: "Thank you for your arrows, Prime Minister Cao!" Then they hurried back to their own camp. The 500 soldiers sent by Zhou Yu took down the arrows and put them in the storehouse. There were more than a hundred thousand of them. In fact, Zhuge Liang had predicted three days earlier that there would be heavy fog that morning. This made Zhou Yu admire him all the more but it also made him even more jealous. Meanwhile, Cao Cao was very depressed at having lost the arrows. He felt he had been fooled. Someone suggested a plan for revenge...

Relativity Of Time
|
You know Einstein's theory of relativity?! Well... even though it has never been proven... I'm pretty sure all of us have felt it... So I've been back home for 4 days now... it still feels kinda weird probably due to me not being here for all the changes... but you know it's even weirder because when I was in Melbourne it felt like time passed extremely quickly and the whole semester happened in the blink of an eye... however after coming back home... time seems to past quickly as well but it feels like I've been away for a long long time... all relative how much I enjoy spending the time... Haven't had much to do sine I got back besides watch the World Cup, watch some Korean series and updating my blog... which is now basically a World Cup report blog rather than my usual movie review blog... It's been a long time since I wrote something interesting... I've really got to start thinking about something interesting to talk about... any suggestions?? Leave a message in the shoutbox... Texas Hold'em... Oh Yeah!
|
Just completed my first ever poker game and I won... oh yeah! Hahaha... two pairs and everyone was all in... sweet!! Anyway so yeah the Commonwealth Games have finally ended and it's actually kinda sad because like it was fun just watching the tv and cheering with everyone else shouting at the tv as well... Plus it didn't feel as boring especially with the extra activities going on in the city and the extra people in town... Pretty awesome... so it's now like twice that I've been in the city that hosted the Commonwealth Games... would be cool if it was the Olympics... that would've been awesome... And like it's just been an awesome week... but now it's back to work and back to reality... until Sunday of course... totally looking forward to the F1 GP in Melbourne... I'm going... yay!!! Report back then... cheers... Labels: random |

Random Stabbings... Crazy
|
There's been a recent streak of random stabbings in the western suburbs and one on Swanston Street in Melbourne... Over the past 4 days, 8 people have been killed and some others injured... it was not even like they were small people... some were like those huge bikers with loads of tattoos... It's crazy... it's totally random AND it was all during daylight... I really feel paranoid these few days walking to uni... I keep looking behind me because some of these people were stabbed in the back...!!!! So Melbournians be careful... Especially with all the extra people coming for the Commonwealth Games... who knows what kind of people are roaming the streets... Labels: news, random |

Dodging Bullets
|
Well okay my friends were at the bar and one of the guys tried to get "fresh" (or at least that is what my friend calls it) with one of the girls and she totally freaked out so... she gave him the first excuse she could think of... and that is... "I'm a lesbian"... Yeah when she told us... we went histerical... her friends said why didn't she just tell him she just had a boyfriend... and now she's like totally freaked about whether he does think she's gay or what... And we were like telling her that he was just tipsy and he probably didn't remember it anyway because he's like totally normal around her... But seriously it hilarious what people say to dodge bullets... and the funny thing is... she totally into this other guy who the guy who hit on her knows... and she keeps sking him about that guy... man... this is so skrewed... Moment Of Truth...
|
I really can't seem to find anything to talk ab0ut these days... But luckily for me no one really reads it anyway and so I can pretty much ramble any rubbish and it wouldn't matter would it... "Blogs are for people who can't get published"... I can't remember which movie it came from but I disagree with it... Personally I think that blogs are for people who want to complain and put out their thoughts but no one wants to listen and only hope that someone would be bored enough to read it... Or at least that's me anyway... When was the last time someone did something really sweet for you... Hahaha don't get the wrong idea... You know the place where I live... we have this cleaner who's really nice and cheery but today she actually brought homemade muffins for us... isn't that just so sweet... I mean would your cleaner do that?!?! So classes start tomorrow or rather later today and I'm quite excited really... because I will also find out how I did for my summer course... fingers cross... I'm soooooo nervous... I was pretty happy with how the paper went but things don't always turn out like you think it would and I really need this... so dear God please help me out here... Cheers... Night Out...
|
The most ridiculous thing happened last night but before I get to that part... I was enjoying myself very much... the day started off well not having classes anymore... A group of us (people from O'Connell Residence) had decided the night before that we were going for a movie... so yesterday night we headed off to Hoyts in Melbourne Central to watch Walk The Line... Since we had some time before the movie started we went to have dessert... in the middle of having dessert, one of the girls, Anna, realised her ticket was missing... looked up and down but nowhere to be found... then I asked her what did she do with the ticket when she was making her order and that is when it struck her that she left it in the menu... Luckily we found her ticket... Oh excellent show by the way... love the music... amazingly... Anyway by the time the show ended it was 12 and when we got back it was around 12.10... We hung around the common room for awhile and one of the guys there, Jade, told us about how he left his key in his room so he was stuck in the common room for the night... he could have called the managers but he decided it was late and he didn't want to trouble them... Awhile later we all headed off the bed... And that was when the stupid thing happened... You see... my toilet is outside my room... and without noticing... yes... I left my key in my room!!! I couldn't believe it myself... because I usually had it hung around my neck but for some reason I took it off before I went to the toilet... of all the stupidity... so I spent the night in the common room as well... Another guy came down awhile later and I asked him if by any chance he had any DVDs and he had Shawn of The Dead so... we 3 watched the movie which ended at about 3 before we went to sleep... Man... it was so cold in the common room... but I still managed to sleep pretty well... That was really one of the stupidest things that has happened to me... Of course only on Monday... the last day of the semester... I went off to classes happily thinking it was all goinig to be over soon and got there early only to realise that I had left my last assignment back at my place... Arrggghhhh... I had to walk all the way back to get it and hence missed half the class... What's up with me man... my brain is like not working properly... Oh well... no harm no foul... Oh and congratulations to Australian cricket team for winning the 2006 VB series... Cheers... Labels: random |

Semester Ends!!! Life's Great...
|
Today was the last day of classes for me... of course the exam is a week away but that's just a technicality... I'm quite relieved really... I have a good feeling about it... the orientation process for 2006 has begun... Seeing all the new people coming in... makes me rather excited... cause I'm not the new one anymore... hehe... I'm a 2nd year!!!! Can't believe it... never actually really thought about even being in uni let alone 2nd year... Quite an amazing feeling really... And the year really has made an incredible start for me... For one thing I'm enjoying very much my new accommodation... I've actually made more friends in this place then I have the whole year last year... Yes that is sad isn't it... Not really I was just rather anti-social last year... But the people I've met here are my type of people... We joke... chat... watch tv... enjoy wasting time... Really sweet indeed... So life is good for now... Cheers... Labels: random |

Australia Day!!
|
Australians all let us rejoice For we are young and free We've golden soil and wealth for toil, Our home is girt by sea: Our land abounds in nature's gifts Of beauty rich and rare, In history's page let every stage Advance Australia fair, In joyful strains then let us sing Advance Australia fair. Beneath our radiant Southern Cross, We'll toil with hearts and hands, To make this Commonwealth of ours Renowned of all the lands, For those who've come across the seas We've boundless plains to share, With courage let us all combine To advance Australia fair. In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia fair. Yes that is the Australian national anthem... and today is Australia Day where every Australian is out have a barbe (al least according to Sam Kekovic they should) or picnic or watching the Aussie Open... Btw yes I do know how to sing the Aussie anthem... as well as Waltzing Matilda but that one has weird lyrics in it... Swagman... Billabong... Anyway... There's been many debates on whether or not the anthem should be changed because some say it is not suitable to reflect the current Australia or something... At least that's a better excuse than Malaysia wanting to change the word "Negaraku" to "Malaysiaku" just because it wasn't written by a Malaysian... as a matter of fact in the beginning some people thought Waltzing Matilda should have been the anthem but it was rejected because the song is about a druken guy who steals or something... I'm not sure... but Waltzing Matilda is I would say to Aussies like the Assunta school song is to every Assuntarian... we just love to sing it...!!! And also I would just like to mention that I will be moving into my new place tomorrow... YAY!!!! Thank you again to Vin Li and the other people at Villiers for being so nice as to let me crash there... So G'day to all... "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie" "Oi! Oi! Oi!"... Labels: my news, random |

Fire Fire!!!!
|
The temperature in Melbourne reached a maximum of approximately 42 degrees yesterday...!!!!!!!! Bush fires everywhere in northern Vic and Andy Roddick has been knocked out of the Aussie Open by Marcos Baghdatis!!! Oh well... Baghdatis is cool... hope he makes finals... that would be awesome!!!!! For women's I think Sharapova vs. Davenport for one of the semis would be quite a match... most probably Davenport will win but I hope Maria gets through... but first Maria has to beat Petrova... and Davenport has to beat Henin-Hardenne... and I think it will be Hingis vs. Clijsters for one of the quarters... that would be quite a match as well then hopefully Hingis can go on maybe play Mauresmo for semis but Hingis has to play Stosur (home fav) and Clijsters has to get pass Schiavone which shouldn't be any problem unless her shoulder gets worst... Mauresmo is definitely through to the quarters and will wait for either Schnyder or Myskina... I'm kinda feeling that Myskina will take it though... and finally I would like to see Hingis vs. Sharapova for the finals... to totally different playing styles... my gosh... can't believe I'm so into tennis now... Hahaha... As for the men... still quite some way to go... what I would like to see is Haas beating Federer which is very highly unlikely... but I would LIKE to see it... :P but anyway I think Federer vs. Davydenko and Chela vs. Grosjean... besides the already through Santoro vs. Nalbandian and Ljubicic vs. Baghdatis for quarters... Then maybe Federer vs. Grosjean and Nalbandian vs. Baghydatis for semis and finally Federer vs. Baghdatis for finals... that would be way interesting... but I doubt Baghdatis will get that far maybe more realistically Federer vs. Nalbandian... I would also like to express my dissapointment that Liverpool was defeated by Man U... sigh... I guess that's all for now... wish me luck for my mid sems on Wednesday... Cheers... Melbourne Report
|
I've been back in Melbourne for 3 days now... When I got there I nearly had a heart attack... it was drizzling and I found out that I couldn't get into Vin Li's place, which she is supposed to be lending me, because she didn't have the key for the gate... no worries... the building next to hers which belongs to the Petronas guys, as usual, is opened... so I kept my things there while I settled other things... Turns out that one of the Petronas guy's parents is using the girls' place... so now I staying in that guy's place... Rafiq I think that's how you spell his name... but I think he moved in with his parents and I'm not sure what the other guy's name is and there was another girl who is from Ballarat, Elani (no sure how you spell it), but she had seemed to disappear... So now I have no idea what on earth is going in that place but I'm just hanging around while finding a place ASAP!!! Classes have started... feels like usual except it the same subject every hour... Yeah and I can't stand not having internet... The computer I'm using right now... the Uni's computer... is totally weird... all the punctuation keys on the keyboard are out of place as in when I try to type @, " comes out instead... to type @ I have to use "Shift""Insert"... is that not ridiculous?!?! Arghhh... it's taking me forever to get this entry done... Vin if you read this... no worries... I'm just glad I have a place... where ever it is... All for now... Cheers... Labels: my news, random |

Didn't Think Much Of It...
|
Ok... so I was out grocery shopping like I do every Saturday... but turns out today had something extra... I headed towards the Asian grocery section and the was this broken bottle of pickled capsicum of some sort... I didn't think much of it because it wasn't really my business anyway and being a Malaysian I didn't really care for it... but I did think of reporting it after I was done browsing through the section... So I was just nicely going through the sauces that were available planning how to make my noodles for the meals for the week when I noticed this woman walking towards where I was and suddenly... *loud thud*... I looked around and there she was lying on the ground on the pool of oil/vinegar from the broken bottle... with her basket of grocery scattered everywhere... I asked her if she was ok... She said not really but managed to get up... So then I went to get one of the employees for help... The next thing I knew I was being interview on what happened... O_O Well I do hope that's all they need rom me because they asked me for my number... So yeah that's what happened... And now I have to be going to the market to get a honeydew with Yan Zhen because we're gonna make some honeydew sago!! Yum... Cheers!! Labels: random |

Spring Weather Sucks... Can't Imagine Summer!!
|
The current weather in Melbourne is terrible... I'm hating it... The worst part it's not that it was freaking hot the past few days but there are bugs everywhere... it's almost worst than Malaysia... at least the bugs back home are pretty small... they are absolutely HUG over here... like mutated insects... I think it was Tuesday night... it was soo hot so I decided to keep my window open... well actually it's open almost all the time anyway even when I'm sleeping... people I know might know that I'm practically HOT blooded... must be the thick layer of blubber around my body... like a bear you know... Anyway... yeah so the window was open... and I didn't think much of it until I wanted to go to sleep... when I suddenly realise the ceiling of my room was like infested with these little flying bugs...!!! I was horrified... I mean bugs in general are fine... but if they are in swamps and I'm going to sleep with them around... Hello... who knows they might start biting and flying up my nose... So I got a cloth... because I have no swatter nor insect spray... and started swatting them... Man... took me like half any hour to get them all I think...!!! I'm so paranoid now that I close my window when the sun is setting... Today was windy and cloudy though... so it was pretty alright... But I can only imagine how hot it is going to get in the Summer... I know the locals love it... but coming from Malaysia... you tend to get sick of the hot weather... Can't wait for autumn and winter again!!!! Labels: P.O.V., random |

Two Poems
|
These are the two poems feature in the movie "In Her Shoes"... I loved them so much I decided to put up the complete versions...
One Art
The art of losing isn't hard to master; so many things seem filled with the intent to be lost that their loss is no disaster.
Lose something every day. Accept the fluster of lost door keys, the hour badly spent. The art of losing isn't hard to master.
Then practice losing farther, losing faster: places, and names, and where it was you meant to travel. None of these will bring disaster.
I lost my mother's watch. And look! my last, or next-to-last, of three loved houses went. The art of losing isn't hard to master.
I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster, some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent. I miss them, but it wasn't a disaster.
---Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident the art of losing's not too hard to master though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster.
-- Elizabeth Bishop --
I Carry Your Heart With Me
I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart) I am never without it (anywhere I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling) I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you
Here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)
